The other option is to work with the n file. My recommended way is to use Ekanta’s or Xentelian’s hotkey editor. Why on earth do you need to assign different keys to janissaries and musketeers? Where are the formation hotkeys, as well as a plethora of other expected options? Have no fear there are a few ways to get the desired results. If you’ve spent any time with the default editor you know how bad it is. Holding Ctrl has the opposite effect, making that unit type the only one remaining in the selection. Holding Shift and clicking the icon will remove that group of units from the selection. First off, clicking on the picture of a unit in the UI will bring up that unit’s stats in the UI. Dealing with all this can be a bit tricky. So you have a big army with a lot of different units in it. The vill counter on each resource will take you to a vill on that task when you click on it. Really useful when you’ve got a bunch of idle vills standing on a mill or want to move all your lumberjacks but not hunters. Similarly, to select all villagers on a certain task hold ctrl and double click a villager on that task. To select all of a certain type of unit on the screen double click one of those units. The same applies to tasks, everything from villagers building to focus firing units. If you start shift clicking afterwards the new waypoints get added onto the end of the current set. Subsequent shift clicks add more waypoints. The first click doesn’t not need to use shift. There is no need to finish the sequence with a nonshifted right click like there was in Age2. Just hold shift while right clicking and the unit(s) will follow the path you set up. Shift clicking commands takes the most basic form in waypoints. I’ve assigned my find TC and idle villager hotkeys to my mouse. The default wheel click is go to last audio notification (getting attacked, finding sheep). To create a group use ctrl+# To add a unit to a group use shift+# And the default to remove a unit from a group is “0”įor your frequently used hotkeys the buttons and even scroll wheel on the mouse are great. Spacebar, Alt+# and pressing the number while the group is already selected all center the view over the selected units. All you have to do is press the number of the group and all the units will be selected. These numerical groups are the best way to keep track of armies. A good set of hotkeys and knowing how to use them will not only make you fast, but let you spend time doing more important things. It takes a ton of keys to replace all the buttons on the UI. This uses four easy to reach keys for the redundant purpose of the mouse and find keys. Hotkeys, they’re important if you want gosu micro or even just a slight edge, click the buttons on the UI as little as possible (unless it means doing gymnastics with your left hand).
